Saying Goodbye to Matt Doyle
It's so hard to say goodbye - but alas, Matt Doyle departs the tour after 2 years and 1 month since his SA Broadway debut. Catch his last moments as Melchior as he starts his new "bright future." We all wish him well and can't wait to tune in to see him on Gossip Girl. Adieu, Adieu.

Spring Awakening in Providence-- REVIEW ROUNDUP
We got some RAVE reviews from the local press.
This one, in the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, made me laugh out loud when they called the Guilty Ones a "support group" haha:
"The Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening has more substance than your usual Broadway musical. Now local audiences will get a chance to fall under its spell this weekend at the Providence Performing Arts Center. If you see just one show at PPAC this season, make it Spring Awakening.
If the show sounds a little dark, that’s because it is — sort of. The opening night crowd let out some customary chuckles as the night got under way, but soon grew quiet as patrons presumably found themselves in the presence of a very unusual and very striking Broadway offering....the show has drawn a huge following among teens, who often bring their parents to let them know what’s on their minds. At Tuesday’s opening, a group of young people from a Spring Awakening support group sat on the stage with cast members, in what looked like a mock classroom....
This, in fact, is the sort of show that teens can’t afford to miss, the kind of show that deals with the heavy issues of adolescence head-on."
This one, in the PROVIDENCE PHOENIX, thought the acting which was "on the money" and the appreciated the "compelling characterizations." He also praised Duncan Sheik, whose songs "overwhelm us with conviction. Some are gentle, but most have a hopping-mad punk energy that captures the emotional and thematic highpoints of the play". Read full review
BROADWAYWORLD set up a challenge of sorts, saying that after all the awards, people in NYC "knew that Spring Awakening is an amazing show," and that it is now up to the touring cast to take that message across America. Judging from his review, it seems like our cast has met his challenge! This sentence made me chuckle: " Do not expect an MGM Musical fade-to-black treatment of teen sex, suicide or abortion. Profanity is celebrated, breasts are bared, sex is simulated and boys kiss each other!" Click here to read
And here's a reviewer from 95.5 WBRU whose expectations were also exceeded. Considering that she has already seen the show on Broadway, that's no small feat. She gushes, "the cast is phenomenal. Young and lively, yet completely aware of the importance of their message, the actors delivered lines and music with emotion and dynamism..." Here's the link
Listen to 95.5's interview with Tom Hulce and Christy Altomare here
We did a bunch of other radio interviews, but none of them seem to be archived online. Here are some of the TV interviews we did:
Blake and Steffi 's Interview on ABC 6, Providence. Blake is so articulate and Steffi is hilarious..."you know, you've been there. Ha ha."

NEW TOTALLYTRUCKED! VIDEO: Krystina and Chase in Dallas
Chase and Krystina flew from Toronto to the land of BBQ and steerhorns, Dallas, Texas, to announce the Dallas Center for the Performing Art's 2010 season. These two live it up at ultra lux hotel Palomar but soon get to work as they sing "Don't Do Saddness/Blue Wind." This is probably the first time anyone has seen this combination. It's a Swing Awakening! Check out the SA cake in the end - yumm!

POUTINE TASTING WITH THE SPRING AWAKENING CAST
Steffi D was excited to see how Smoke's compared to her mom's poutine. Will Blake, Matt and Christy share Steffi's obsession? Or will there be an American revolt? Let's go to the video:
Poutine dessert! Both Matt and Blake were inspired! Looks like Poutine is a hit!
Did you catch the photographer in the video? A reporter from the National Post followed our cast as they made this video for you.
Here's an excerpt from the article :
They are an enthusiastic group. They're excited to draw on the blackboard [the opening of Christy's video above], to recognize the back of the Royal Alexandra Theatre from across Adelaide and to show off pictures of their pets (Doyle whips out his iPhone and starts cooing over his "baby," a photogenic little dachsund/terrier cross named Jacob). Mostly, after months of winter in various Midwestern cities, they're excited to be in Toronto, which, according to Altomare, "actually FEELS like a city!"
And today, they're excited to try poutine for the first time, except for Steffi D., who is excited to compare Smoke's poutine to her mom's. (The poutine is a particularly good choice today, as the previous night was their one night off. They all took full advantage of the break, and are in need of the, ah, curative properties of fries and gravy.)

What Would You Do? BOSTON
Since the cast has very limited time to enjoy all that each city has to offer when they are only there for one week, the "What Would You Do?" feature will only include tour stops that last more than a week. That doesn't mean there won't be videos from each city, but that those videos won't be fan-generated.
So. If you are from Boston or know Boston, give the cast some great ideas to vlog about. Unique places, food, and activities that can't be found anywhere else.
These submissions are due by the end of the week: Friday, April 24th.
Our fans have given us some great suggestions already and they are much appreciated!

If you've got a question for the wonderful Ms. Garza, please leave a comment below. Questions are due by end of day Tue, April 21st. That gives you a little less than five days. Thanks!

Class Assignment: "Easter Bunny"
Class Assignment: We asked our company to write a short story or poem around the theme "Easter Bunny." We think you're going to love some of the assignments we got back....
SARAH HUNT
AN EASTER POEM
I once had a rabbit named Mabel
Who lived in a box in our stable
Then one morning I saw
She was not in her straw;
She was served up with rice on our table.
KRYSTINA ALABADO
The Easter bunny scared me
When I was short and small
But then he left me presents
So i shut up and loved them all
JULIE BENKO
Easter At My House
By Jew-Jew-Jewlie Benko
Those Easter Egg hunts were so fun—GOTCHA!
At my house we hunted the afikomen (matzah).
We never expected the Easter Bunny.
Instead I heard, “Get the door for Elijah, honey!”
The non-painted, hard-boiled eggs that we ate
Looked just like the one on the seder plate.
We’d remember our people’s return to Zion,
And say “Happy Passover! Drink up! L’Chaim!”
ANTHONY LEE MEDINA
I had an Easter Bunny
It's name was Darla
It died of constipation.
True story.
JULIE DANIELSON
When my brother was in high school, he was hired to dress up as the Easter Bunny in the mall.
He's 6 foot 4.
STEFFI D
"Tomorrow, I'm bringing Scissors!"
A Short Story, by Steffi D
One fine day, Ilse met the Easter Bunny at the stage door and he really liked her haircut.
And so, she exclaimed: "Tomorrow, I'm bringing scissors!", to which the Easter Bunny answered: "For God sake, Ilse, no! I love my haircut as it is!"
The next day, dark into the night, when the Easter Bunny was sleeping, Ilse took a pair of scissors and cut one of his ears shorter than the other to give him the crooked, uneven, bob look...
She didn't get any treats from him that year...
She will never get any treats from him ever again.
MARQUES WALLS
Melchior: You know, it's something I've been thinking a lot about.
Wendla: The day laborers?
Melchior: (Laughs) No. Easter. What do you think Wendla. Can the Easter Bunny really make a difference?
FREDDY HALL
Bunny is boppin around your house leaving chocolate
Under the kitchen table and hiding eggs that are really hard to find and sometimes you
Never really find them, or you do in like,
November
Yet, it's still a blast and you can't help but have a good time!
THE COMPANY OF SPRING AWAKENING WISHES ALL OUR FANS A VERY HAPPY PASSOVER/EASTER/VERNAL EQUINOX!

TORONTO (April 7, 2009) – The producers of “Spring Awakening” announced today that Saskatoon native and Toronto resident Kyle Riabko will return to “Spring Awakening” on April 14. Frequently Asked Questions
If you just want to send a quick note to all the cast members telling them you appreciate their work, you can email us here at totallytruckedblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I will be happy to forward your email to the cast, but to preserve their privacy, it is unlikely they will email you back (I will, though).
You can also send individual performers fan mail and care packages care of the theatre at which we are currently performing or will be performing. Go to the theatre's website (listed above), find their mailing address, write the actor's name as well as "Spring Awakening" and send c/o the theatre. Remember, we are often at these theatres for only a week so make sure to allow for delivery times. It's a better bet to send it to the theatre we will be going to next as they can always hold packages for us until we arrive. Letters received late will not be forwarded to our next location.
2. How Can I Audition for Spring Awakening?
From time to time, we have open calls in larger cities across the US. We will post any additional open calls here. Subscribe if you havn't already to keep informed. In the meantime, we've made it easy for you to submit yourself singing a folk/alternative rock song on video. Go to: http://www.springawakening.com/videoauditionsubmission/ Make sure your submission is less than 500 MB and is one of the accepted formats. Your screen should change and you should get a confirmation that says your submission has been received. Trust us, people are called in this way. Lucas Wells was cast because of an online submission!
3. How Do I Score On Stage Seats?
That is really up to the individual theatres. Most of them won't release the seats until just before performances because they want to make sure the house is sold first. Some do so online, although the ticketing systems they have in place often can't accommodate our unique seats onstage. Most of them are available only at the box office (though you can purchase them for a performance in the future). The Guilty Ones Street Team members have the rights to purchase these seats before the general public. Any seats left over will be released to the box office and may also be purchased as part of rush tickets (discounted, day-of tickets).
4. How Do I Join The Guilty Ones?
The National Guilty Ones Street Team is a way for fans of the show in each of our tour stops to help us spread the word. You will get access to parties, meet and greets, and other special events while meeting new friends who share your passion for the show, all while gaining some valuable marketing experience. You must be at least 15 yrs old. Email your contact info to nationalguiltyones (at) gmail (dot) com.
5. Can I Get Discounts?
From time to time, a theatre may offer us discounts to send out to our fans. We will post any here on the blog. Subscribe now!
6. Who runs this site? This site was created for fans to stay connected with our touring cast and follow their adventures around North America. Ideally, it would be in the voice of the cast members. Unfortunately, our cast members are often too tired or busy to post lengthy blog posts on a regular basis. Company members will contribute a post from time to time and every month we will have a compiled blog post that most every company member will participate in. The other stuff like updates, etc, will be posted by me. My name is Pun. I work for the production, love this show, its cast, and our fans, and I'm so very glad you're here!
