Spring Awakening Tour: Audition Cut Medley - Part 2
It's Part 2 of our video from the Spring It On Rochester cabaret. Both Christy Altomare and Kimiko Glenn auditioned with a rendition of "River" by Jonie Mitchell while Taylor Trensch keeps it in the SA family of tunes with "Left Behind." Krystina Alabado takes it back to contemporary with Michelle Branch's "Everywhere" and Ben Fankhauser sings "On The Way Down" by Ryan Cabrera and Steffi D ends the medley with a song from a fellow Canadian, "Angel", by Sarah McLachlan. Leave comments below, and if you've ever auditioned for Spring Awakening before, let the community know what song you chose. Enjoy!

Spring Awakening Makes a Wish Come True
Curtain Call for Wish Child Jesse!
ROCHESTER, NY (Feb. 10, 2010) – Wish child Jesse Pardee, an eighteen-year-old from Camillus, NY diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, will be performing in the Spring Awakening national tour during the Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13 performances at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre.
Pardee’s original wish was to audition for the Spring Awakening national tour. This wish was fulfilled on January 20, 2010 in NYC when she auditioned in front of the Spring Awakening creative team, which included the director, Michael Mayer, the music supervisor, Kimberly Grigsby, and the associate choreographer, JoAnn Hunter. The team was so impressed with her talent and personality that they invited her to perform in Rochester as part of her wish experience.
During the evening performance on Friday, February 12 and the matinee and evening performances on Saturday, February 13, Pardee will be performing as part of the ensemble in the “chair of rock” role.
Spring Awakening, the 8-time Tony Award® winning Broadway musical, is based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play of the same name, and features an electrifying score by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, direction by Michael Mayer, and choreography by the award-winning Bill T. Jones.
Set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of adolescent self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers. Haunting and provocative, Spring Awakening celebrates an unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and a passion you will never forget. For more details about Spring Awakening visit SpringAwakening.com.
Tickets for Spring Awakening at the Auditorium Theatre in Rochester are available at www.ticketmaster.com, 800.745.3000 and at the Auditorium Theatre Box Office.
Please join us share in the power of a wish as Jesse’s wish comes true!

New Video: How Spring Awakening Celebrates Birthdays on the Road
Spring Awakening Tour: Behind the Scenes - Bdays On The Road
What do SA cast members do on their birthday when on the road? Steffi D celebrated
her 20th in Boston with a pink tutu and Krystina has practically grown up on the
road from ages 18-20. Back in Cincinnati, we celebrated Kayla Foster's Birthday with 2 cakes and a wonderfully tuned and melodically perfect rendition of "Happy Birthday to You." Thanks to Krystina for creating this vid. Enjoy!

Spring Awakening in Rochester, NY!
We're back on the east coast for three engagements! For all our fans on Broadway who have been missing the show--time to make travel plans and get your tickets now for Rochester, Schenectady and Hartford!
The winter storm that hit the east coast messed up our travel plans to Rochester and the cast was forced to split into two travel groups. This created a friendly (or not so friendly) war of words on Twitter between cast members in Group 1 and 2.
Chase Davidson: Group one is way more skinny and talented than group two. We flew on lady gaga's private jet that served chipotle and coldstone...and gold.
Just to further reinforce their fabulosity, Ben Fankhauser tweeted this picture of Group one's hair teasing party in Rochester:
See how Group 2 responded at this link: http://twitter.com/springtour/cast-musicians

REVIEWS
DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE: "Frankly, I didn't know what to expect from the musical, and wondered how Rochester Broadway Theatre League patrons would view a controversial production that makes Rent and Avenue Q seem tame by comparison.
The overall consensus was "dark but beautiful" — and I had to agree." I would rate this play R for real. Yes, it's provocative, but its growing pains have heart. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=20102110330
ROCHESTER CITY NEWSPAPER: A rave! " Of course, it helps to have a fantastic cast bringing the songs and words to life. Altomare and Epstein lead a great group of young actors (and older ones - Angela Reed and John Wojda do excellent work bringing to life a variety of adult roles in the play). The tiny Altomare has a piercing, haunting soprano voice, and even her most difficult melodic passes seem totally effortless. Epstein is commanding in his lower register and slides through his many falsetto portions with expert precision. Other stand-outs include Taylor Trensch, who balances terror, rage, anxiety, and despair as poor, doomed Moritz; "Canadian Idol" star Steffi D as sweet-voiced outcast Ilse; and Andy Mientus, who capitalizes on every moment of the fairly minor character of Hanschen to deliver some of the night's funniest, sexiest moments." http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.com/entertainment/stage/2010/02/THEATER-REVIEW-RBTLs-Spring-Awakening/

CHARLOTTE OBSERVER A rave! And great notices for our Melchoir understudy and hometown boy Matt Shingledecker:
"Awakening is bold and bracing" By Lawrence Toppman
"Any students in this group who reached adulthood would be in their late 50s when Adolf Hitler was elected chancellor of Germany in 1933. Could Mayer and Jones be implying that, when someone in power stamps down individuals and demands unthinking obedience to authority, the Nazi Party is the likely result?"
(The answer to your question, Mr. Toppman, is yes! That's exactly what we mean to imply. Andy's hair ain't blond fer nothin'. Very astute).

ARTS A LA MODE By Mark Pizzato
"Maybe we do have to go back in time to making meaning out of our youthful confusion, nostalgic passions, and hollow idols today."
(I love it, all these Charlotte critics really get it."

"Overall, this is one of the most fantastic shows you will ever see. It will entertain and touch you. You’ll remember confusion and frustration from your own adolescence, your heart will pour out to the abused, you’ll laugh with Melchior when he realizes he’s F’ed, and you’ll tell all your friends, just as I am … you must see Spring Awakening at the Belk, playing now through February 7th!"
