Mattchoir Part Deux

Hi guys. There has been some confusion as to whether Kyle is leaving permanently from the tour or not. Hope this clears things up:

Broadway Cast Member Matt Doyle Returns to Play Melchior for Limited Engagement in Toronto.

The Spring Awakening family would like to welcome Broadway's Matt Doyle back to the production with his superb portrayal of Melchior for the Toronto engagement of the tour. On Friday, we received the news that Kyle had to withdraw from Toronto due to booking the male lead on the ABC pilot Limelight (huge congrats Kyle!). On Monday, Matt and the folks at CW graciously rearranged his Gossip Girl shooting schedule while Kyle takes a temporary leave. We are extremely proud of our cast, past and present, and all their professional accomplishments and support their efforts wholeheartedly. Although we are sad for Kyle to miss his hometown,we are excited for his return come our next tour stop.

In the meantime, Matt joins the family once again and we will be there to capture the moments with exclusive blogs, videos, and Q&A while in Toronto. Be on the look-out for upcoming posts on Totally Truck, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, and the Fan Forum.

Has anyone out there seen Matt on Broadway? Leave a comment below and let fans in Toronto know how amazing he is!

Keeping you in the loop,
Pun

OMG this is so cool! I can't wait to see how Matt will perform with a whole new cast. I've heard great things about him as melchior. yay Matt!

I've seen Matt as Melchior seven times. He is by far the best Melchior I have ever seen. Knowing that his pure talent will be shared with thousands of others is a blessing to these fans. I unfortunately wont be able to make it to Toronto, but I look forward to hearing about his brilliance in the role. If you are planning to see this tour stop, you will NOT be let down. Their is nothing better then Matt Doyle as Melchior. Break a leg Matt!

Oh my god, I am SO excited!! Ahhh please make videos! I've seen Matt as Melchior twice and he is FANTASTIC! If you're seeing the tour in Toronto, trust me- you will be impressed. But, yeah... Break a leg, Matt!!

I love Matt as Melchior and have had the pleasure of seeing him three times on Broadway. He will surely dazzle the Toronto audiences as much as he did on Broadway!

I've never have the chance to see Mattchior, but I have never heard anyone who has say anything but incredible things about his performance. Matt is immensely talented, and I'm jealous of all you Canadians who get to see it!

Also - thanks for quite the exciting day over at TGO!

The first time I saw Spring Awakening, back in September '07 Matt was on! I'm jealous of everyone who gets to see him as Melchior again! He's one of my favorites (and I saw all Broadway Melchiors). Everyone enjoy him!

Congrats to Kyle, as well!

I never had a chance to see Matt's Melchior, but I've heard nothing but great things about his performance :) I'll be cheering on in spirit and I'm eager to see new videos with Matt and the cast.

This is great news all around. Really happy for Matt - he gives a wonderful performance as Melchior, and in my opinion it's the role he deserved to play full-time all along. Fans in Toronto are in for something special.

And so are fans at the other stops! Kyle is my personal favorite Melchior, and I've seen all 6 boys who went on for it on Broadway (quick shout-out to Shingledecker too, since I'm commenting the tour blog here - his acting for Melchior is phenomenal). I'm very glad this is a temporary leave and Kyle will be back AFTER Toronto, when I'll be able to come see the tour for the first time :)

No matter where you see the tour, you're getting a great guy in the lead. Congrats to Matt on Toronto - they couldn't have chosen better - and to Kyle on the pilot!

No flippin way!!!!!!!! I honestly can't wait to see the show on Tuesday now, =D

I need to have a few things cleared up. My heart is completely set on seeing Kyle Riabko as Melchior and I am so sad to hear this!

After Matt Doyle leaves (April 12th) will Kyle have returned? Or will that week be taken over by understudies? Or did Matt Doyle type in his dates wrong?

Anonymous said...

Is it true that Matt Doyle is going on as Melchior for both shows in Cleveland on Saturday?

Anonymous said...

Okay. OMG! For all you Matt Doyle fans or SA lovers who havent seen Matt Doyle. GO WATCH HIM PERFORM! He's AMAZING! His voice sounds like an angel and i cant get enough of him. i saw him on broadway as Hanschen, and have seen youtube videos of him as melchior (which is outstanding by the way)
I'm so jealous that i'm not going to be in toronto to watch him perform.

Pilots have a way of extending beyond their shooting schedules. We hope Kyle can make it back to play some of the Toronto engagement, but are not announcing anything lest we create false expectations.

I have not been told that. As far as I know, Matt's going to Cleveland to do a run thru with the cast.

I have seen Matt on many times for many different roles, Matt - Melchior is my favorite! Matt is very talented and I know some of you guys were hoping to see Kyle, but Matt will not let you down. He is a great guy and a great performer! Have a great time Matt! Let it be like old times ;D

and yes...Congrats Kyle!

Matt is the best Melchior, hands down. If you can get to Toronto, DO IT. You will NOT be disappointed!

Though I know the majority is thrilled, I am very sad that Kyle will not get to show Toronto how incredible he is. His chemistry with Christy, I feel, cannot be matched by anyone. I feel bad that people in Toronto won't get to experience their TWOYB. They have something with that song no other Melchior/Wendla have had.

But congrats to Kyle on the pilot, and I'm glad that Matt is a dream come true for many people.

You'll be missed Kyle!

Congrats to Matt!He is so adorable.Congrats to Kyle too (who did an awesome job last night)! While we are on the subject of cast members leaving, has Andy and Blake said when they were leaving yet?Just curious...

Anonymous said...

So Matt Doyle will leave on April 12th no matter what, right? Like, even if the shooting for the pilot extends? I just want to be sure...

I have seen every Melchi Broadway has had perform. There has never been a bad one! I have some I like better than others, but they were all wonderful! Its sad that Kyle is going to miss his hometown, but the two Matts (yes I will include both since I have seen both)are at the top of my lists. You have so much talent coming your way, that unless you know Kyle personally or are going just to see him, you are not missing out at all! I see somebody commented on the chemistry, the casts knew each other from before the tour and have remained friends im sure, so I don't think that will be an issue at all! you are in for an amazing show! Congrats Matt, Kyle, and everyone else!

I look forward to the videos and posts! I hope Matt finds his way into them. He deserves to have a little fun and enjoy it as part of the experience!

Yay for Kyle! I cannot wait to see him in Chicago. :)

If you have any news on Blake Bashoff leaving the tour it would be great to see it written. Thanks. :)

Goodness, those of you in Toronto are in for a treat. If you don't have tickets now, go get some. Stat.

That is the expectation, but as always, things may change. We are not in a position to make a public announcement at this time.

LOVIN' your comments, guys. Thanks so much for the outpouring of support.

Wow. Matt is a decent Melchior but I feel so sad for everyone that will not get a chance to see Kyle. Out of all the Melchior and Wendlas I've seen (and I've seen A LOT of different combinations) I would have to say Kyle and Christy are my favorite pairing.

I have never cared for "The Word Of Your Body" or "The Guilty Ones" until I heard their rendition. Those two sound phenomenal together and make the song really MEAN something. It's as if their voices were made to go together!

Seriously, I've seen the tour cast in a few different stops and it blows me away how Kyle's performance is always improving. So, while it is nice that Matt Doyle gets a short shot at it, I hope Toronto gets to see Kyle in that role!

Anonymous said...

^ Oops, I just wanted to add while I think it's sad that he won't be there for the majority of Toronto, I am so happy that he got that role!

I hope he has a chance to show off his guitar skills because it's undeniable that he is a very talented guitarist.

Anonymous said...

As fantastic as Matt Doyle is. I'm so sorry to Lucas, Perry and Matt. Who SHOULD be covering the role more.

Anonymous said...

Lucas, Perry, and Matt have their own jobs within the show. Lucas and Perry understudy multiple roles and have their own roles, and Matt has his own role as well. If it was only a week or so, I'm sure they would cover the role, but this is a month. Having the three of them cover Melchior for that long is unrealistic.

I watched Matt Doyle in Broadway during the summer of 2008. Unfortunately I didn't get to see him as Melchior but saw him as Hanschen all three times I watched the show (I got to sit next to him on stage). He is just an amazing singer and actor and he is amazingly humorous! When he greets fans in the stage door, he is just the nicest, sweetest and most down to earth person I ever met. He always carries a smile in his face when he talks to fans. My friends and I traveled far (I mean very far, I live in an island in the Pacific Ocean) and we felt amazingly honored to watch the show and watch him perform in Broadway! I just want to say to people in Toronto, get ready for a person that is just amazingly talented!!!
Thanks again Matt Doyle for inspiring me to do theater and Totally Trucked for continuing their blog and videos!!!

I saw all the melchiors on broadway and while each of them were fabuloussss, Matt Doyle was my personal favorite. I'm so excited he's performing in Toronto, a little upset I live so far away, but I'll get over it. I've never cried that hard watching Spring Awakening than when Matt was on (with maybe the exception of the two closing performances). He is absolutely fantastic and a real sweetheart at the stage door, every time I've seen him. I wish him and the rest of the amazing past and present cast the best of luck and I can't wait until the tour comes my way!

I heard a rumor that Blake Bashoff is leaving on April 9. Is this true?!

I'm seeing the show in Providence on April 26, and I'd love to see Blake/Steffi's Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind (not to mention And Then There Were None).

If he is leaving, who's replacing him?

Love you guys though! 40 days!

I am so happy for Kyle! Congrats!!!! I have a question for Pun. I know that Kyle will return again after he films the pilot, but do you know for how long? Will he make it to Chicago or even Philly? I love Christy and Kyle's Wendla/Melchior.

Anonymous said...

I wish I could see Matt perform... I've been a big fan of his since hearing the Bare album... I'm sure he will be amazing.

Anonymous said...

Mattchior is seriously the greatest thing I've ever seen live. I saw 5 different people play Melchi on B-way (never got to see Matt S., sadly), and Matt was the first. His Melchior is the reason I fell in love with the show. Anyone in Toronto is seriously lucky to get to see Matt play the role again. His vocal range is mind-blowing, and I die of happiness everytime I hear him sing Left Behind, because it is just so beautiful. Congrats to Kyle too, for the pilot =D

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I send fan mail to the cast?

If you just want to send a quick note to all the cast members telling them you appreciate their work, you can email us here at totallytruckedblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I will be happy to forward your email to the cast, but to preserve their privacy, it is unlikely they will email you back (I will, though).

You can also send individual performers fan mail and care packages care of the theatre at which we are currently performing or will be performing. Go to the theatre's website (listed above), find their mailing address, write the actor's name as well as "Spring Awakening" and send c/o the theatre. Remember, we are often at these theatres for only a week so make sure to allow for delivery times. It's a better bet to send it to the theatre we will be going to next as they can always hold packages for us until we arrive. Letters received late will not be forwarded to our next location.

2. How Can I Audition for Spring Awakening?
From time to time, we have open calls in larger cities across the US. We will post any additional open calls here. Subscribe if you havn't already to keep informed. In the meantime, we've made it easy for you to submit yourself singing a folk/alternative rock song on video. Go to: http://www.springawakening.com/videoauditionsubmission/ Make sure your submission is less than 500 MB and is one of the accepted formats. Your screen should change and you should get a confirmation that says your submission has been received. Trust us, people are called in this way. Lucas Wells was cast because of an online submission!

3. How Do I Score On Stage Seats?
That is really up to the individual theatres. Most of them won't release the seats until just before performances because they want to make sure the house is sold first. Some do so online, although the ticketing systems they have in place often can't accommodate our unique seats onstage. Most of them are available only at the box office (though you can purchase them for a performance in the future). The Guilty Ones Street Team members have the rights to purchase these seats before the general public. Any seats left over will be released to the box office and may also be purchased as part of rush tickets (discounted, day-of tickets).

4. How Do I Join The Guilty Ones?

The National Guilty Ones Street Team is a way for fans of the show in each of our tour stops to help us spread the word. You will get access to parties, meet and greets, and other special events while meeting new friends who share your passion for the show, all while gaining some valuable marketing experience. You must be at least 15 yrs old. Email your contact info to nationalguiltyones (at) gmail (dot) com.

5. Can I Get Discounts?

From time to time, a theatre may offer us discounts to send out to our fans. We will post any here on the blog. Subscribe now!

6. Who runs this site? This site was created for fans to stay connected with our touring cast and follow their adventures around North America. Ideally, it would be in the voice of the cast members. Unfortunately, our cast members are often too tired or busy to post lengthy blog posts on a regular basis. Company members will contribute a post from time to time and every month we will have a compiled blog post that most every company member will participate in. The other stuff like updates, etc, will be posted by me. My name is Pun. I work for the production, love this show, its cast, and our fans, and I'm so very glad you're here!
