We continue on with Jake Epstein's Profile of the Month, Part 2 - Melchior lives on! Find out Jake's take on Melchior's life post 1891 and the official word on the impostor Twitter profile of Jake Epstein (spoiler - it's not him). And finally, how does one describe Steffi D and the rest of the cast in one word - find out!
VIDEO - Part 2
Thanks for all your submissions, everyone! Sorry we couldn't answer every question, but we tried to feature the most asked questions. For the record, Jake received five marriage proposals...LOL Here are the questions asked in Part I and II:
JAKE PROFILE OF THE MONTH QUESTIONS
1. Many fans have asked for a Hot Minute Video:
What is your:
full name?
favorite food?
TV show you’re currently hooked on?
quirk/ or interesting fact about yourself?
Pet peeve?
favorite band?
dream role?
2. Kevin wrote:
Hi, I’m a young actor (trying to get into college) and I always enjoy when this question comes up in acting classes.... Why do you act or what is the most fulfilling part about being an actor for you? How did you get your start?
3. Many fans asked: do you like acting on stage or on television better? Which character is harder to play, Craig from Degrassi or Melchior from Spring Awakening ?
4. Emily and Rozzie asked: what is the craziest thing a fan has ever done?
5. Sharon says:
You are amazing!!! Just a quick question, we all know you write your own songs... (The Way You Shine and My Window are my faves!!) Are you planning on releasing an album anytime soon? Please say yes!! :)
6. Anonymous asked:
What do you know about Melchior that we wouldn’t as an audience? For example, do you have any additional backstory that you keep in mind while portraying Melchoir? Jessica and Rachelle add: what do YOU think happens to Melchoir after the show ends? Love you!!!
7. Laura wrote:
Jake, I've read that your grandparents are Holocaust survivors and your mom wrote the book, "The Secret of Gabi's Dresser." Has this affected how you feel about playing such a radical character from pre-war Germany?
8. There seems to be someone on Twitter with a fake Jake Epstein account. Just to set the record straight, “Do you have a Twitter Profile? Myspace? Facebook? How can fans stay in touch with you?”
9. From Anne Claire:
If you could describe each of the Spring Awakening cast members (including yourself) in only one word starting with the first letter in their name, what would you say?
10. Anonymous and Devon from California asks:
If you could have dinner with any celebrity, dead or alive, who would it be?

We got a lot of great questions, many of which repeated each other, but there's still time for a really creative question to rise to the top of the pile. Jake Epstein from Degrassi Joins Spring Awakening (exclusive video)

We are happy to announce that Jake Epstein from Degrassi: The Next Generation will take over for Kyle Riabko in the role of Melchoir on the national tour. While we are sad to see Kyle go, we wish him all the best in his exciting career. Kyle's last stop will be Philadelphia and Jake will officially kick off his run in Washington DC on July 7th.
We have exclusive video of Jake singing a song from Spring Awakening with our cast members while they were in Toronto. As many of you know, Jake was in the Toronto cast of "Dog Sees God" which our cast members saw early in their Toronto run. They decided to do a cabaret together. Here is Jake with fellow Dog Sees God members Alex Saslove and Paula Brancati (also from Degrassi) with our cast members Krystina Alabado, Sarah Hunt, Julie Benko. Anthony Lee Medina and Matt Shingledecker sing back up vocals! Enjoy this exclusive rendition of "The Dark I Know So Well:"
Here's the official press release:
Jake Epstein Joins the Cast of Spring Awakening National Tour
Degrassi star to take over lead the role of “Melchior Gabor” beginning July 7
June 2, 2009 - The producers of Spring Awakening announced today that Jake Esptein, best known for his work as “Craig” on the hit television series “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” will take over the lead role of “Melchior Gabor” in the national touring production of the Tony Award®-winning musical, beginning July 7 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Jake Epstein
A 22-year-old, Toronto-born actor, Epstein has already been working in theatre, film and television for more than a decade. Theatre credits include Cameron MacKintosh’s Oliver! (Artful Dodger), Dog Sees God, Cinderella, Dangerous Liaisons and Our Town. Television and Film credits include leading roles on “The Zack Files,” and “Degrassi: The Next Generation (Gemini Award)” as well as appearances on “Charlie Bartlett,” “Crown Heights,” “Quints,” “Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire,” “Paradise Falls,” “Angela’s Eyes,” “Radio Free Roscoe,” “The Eleventh Hour”and “Being Erica.” He recently graduated from the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada, where he had the opportunity to work with Canada’s leading directors and artists. In addition to acting, Epstein is an accomplished songwriter and musician.
Spring Awakening is based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play of the same name, and features an electrifying score by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, direction by Michael Mayer, and choreography by the award-winning Bill T. Jones. The production won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical (2007).
Set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of adolescent self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers. Haunting and provocative, Spring Awakening celebrates an unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and a passion you will never forget.

Degrassi: The Next Generation sees Spring Awakening
Many of the cast members of Degrassi: The Next Generation came to see Spring Awakening while we were in Toronto. They loved the show and wanted to come backstage to meet our cast members. We have exclusive video and pictures from this backstage mash up!
Video #1: What did Judy Jiao, Samantha Munro, Argiris Karras and Scott Paterson think of the show? Our company manager, Chris Recker, steps in to get their reactions:
Video #2: Kyle the Method Actor. Watch the end of this clip as Kyle takes you inside his "process." Hilarious! Other things to listen for: Samantha Munro, "You guys are so awesome! Like, you're so talented!" Also, Chris Recker admits to being a member of the "OGC."
You guys loved Jeremy Clay's photos from the Eaton Centre concert so much that we asked him back to document this meet and greet for
us. As usual, he got some awesome shots:

Spring Awakening/Degrassi Mash Up Redux: Toronto!
As many of you know, Spring Awakening has a history with the TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation, dating all the way back to our Mash Up on Broadway, hosted by Rosie O'Donnell and Zach Braff (the video of which is on YouTube if you havn't seen it--featuring Andy Mientus before he was cast, who, according to Rosie, is destined to be a "soap star" LOL).
Some of the cast members from Degrassi are in the play "Dog Sees God" in Toronto, which members of our cast went to support. See below some of the hilarity that ensued..and this was BEFORE the casts went out on the town together after the show.
Coming up in a future post we'll have video of the cabaret that some members of our cast did with cast members of Dog Sees God last Sunday. It's Mash Up Redux, Toronto style!
Anyone blog readers out there who were at the original Mashup? Anyone a fan of both shows? What do you think, is the union a natural pairing? We'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment below!

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I send fan mail to the cast?
If you just want to send a quick note to all the cast members telling them you appreciate their work, you can email us here at totallytruckedblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I will be happy to forward your email to the cast, but to preserve their privacy, it is unlikely they will email you back (I will, though).
You can also send individual performers fan mail and care packages care of the theatre at which we are currently performing or will be performing. Go to the theatre's website (listed above), find their mailing address, write the actor's name as well as "Spring Awakening" and send c/o the theatre. Remember, we are often at these theatres for only a week so make sure to allow for delivery times. It's a better bet to send it to the theatre we will be going to next as they can always hold packages for us until we arrive. Letters received late will not be forwarded to our next location.
2. How Can I Audition for Spring Awakening?
From time to time, we have open calls in larger cities across the US. We will post any additional open calls here. Subscribe if you havn't already to keep informed. In the meantime, we've made it easy for you to submit yourself singing a folk/alternative rock song on video. Go to: http://www.springawakening.com/videoauditionsubmission/ Make sure your submission is less than 500 MB and is one of the accepted formats. Your screen should change and you should get a confirmation that says your submission has been received. Trust us, people are called in this way. Lucas Wells was cast because of an online submission!
3. How Do I Score On Stage Seats?
That is really up to the individual theatres. Most of them won't release the seats until just before performances because they want to make sure the house is sold first. Some do so online, although the ticketing systems they have in place often can't accommodate our unique seats onstage. Most of them are available only at the box office (though you can purchase them for a performance in the future). The Guilty Ones Street Team members have the rights to purchase these seats before the general public. Any seats left over will be released to the box office and may also be purchased as part of rush tickets (discounted, day-of tickets).
4. How Do I Join The Guilty Ones?
The National Guilty Ones Street Team is a way for fans of the show in each of our tour stops to help us spread the word. You will get access to parties, meet and greets, and other special events while meeting new friends who share your passion for the show, all while gaining some valuable marketing experience. You must be at least 15 yrs old. Email your contact info to nationalguiltyones (at) gmail (dot) com.
5. Can I Get Discounts?
From time to time, a theatre may offer us discounts to send out to our fans. We will post any here on the blog. Subscribe now!
6. Who runs this site? This site was created for fans to stay connected with our touring cast and follow their adventures around North America. Ideally, it would be in the voice of the cast members. Unfortunately, our cast members are often too tired or busy to post lengthy blog posts on a regular basis. Company members will contribute a post from time to time and every month we will have a compiled blog post that most every company member will participate in. The other stuff like updates, etc, will be posted by me. My name is Pun. I work for the production, love this show, its cast, and our fans, and I'm so very glad you're here!
