WHAT WOULD YOU DO DALLAS?
It's been a while since we've had the luxury of playing in a city for more than a single week. The next stop on the tour where we'll actually have some time to explore the city more is when we come to the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, TX. Do you know the city well? Please comment below with some suggestions of the best places to eat and fun things to do. Dallas is a big city! We don't necessarily want the things that can be found in any tourist guide. We want the "insider's" perspective. And if you have special access to things off the beaten path, email us at totallytruckedblog (at) gmail (dot) com. We can't promise we'll go to everything or make videos of everything, but you'll be a big help.

Deep Ellum is the hot, trendy place in Dallas. Lots of awesome music, poetry, and shops. Definitely need to check out Deep Ellum! Also, kind of touristy, but the Sixth Floor Museum is a really neat place to visit and check out some rare footage on President Kennedy's assassination. They give you a minute by minute replay of what happened. Very, very cool! Can't wait to see you guys!
Rockwall Texas (Less than 20 minutes away from Dallas, its where I live) has Lake Ray Hubbard, it's kinda cold out now, but boating is fun regardless of whether. And I can't imagine its anywhere near as cold as other places you've been to, and it'll warm up. Also there are theatres here with different goings on. Theatre 3 is a smaller professional theatre in Dallas with people from the community. There is Reunion tower by the Hyatt hotel, It's the cool tower with the giant ball atop it. I believe there is a german restraunt in it now...
You are in the heart of the Dallas Arts District since you are performing at the PAC. Check out the Nasher Sculpture Garden and the DMA. Also, tour the Wyly Theatre which is just across the street from the Winspear. (All in walking distance) Head over to Fair Park as well for museums. Try Sol's Taco Lounge in Deep Ellum for some great food. Can't wait for y'all to get here. I'm hoping I'll see you on stage!
I know some of you guys like to eat and there's this AMAZING Sicilian restaurant called, "Campisi's Egyptian Restaurant" on Mockingbird. The spaghetti, salad, pizza, as well as other awesome Sicilian food and it's been a local favorite for decades. But the real awesome part is the history behind it.
Joe Campisi, who founded the first Campisi's Restaurant, was the last known Dallas mob boss. It was rumored he was linked to the death of Lee Harvey Oswald since Jack Ruby (the man who shot Oswald) ate there that day. No one could ever pin anything on him, of course. He died in 1990 but his restaurant still lives on and is very popular with natives. There's a backroom that would be reserved for 'VIPs' and the Dallas police force still eats there for free. Also, in the booths, there a rejukeboxes that work at your table. It's really cool. :)
Also, you should go to Arlington (it's just a rental car's distance away) and take a tour of the new Cowboys Stadium. IT IS AMAZINGGGG. They take you to the VIP boxes and all around the stadium. So worth it! And do try to spend a few hours at Six Flags Over Texas, the ORIGINAL Six Flags. The Titan rollercoaster is amazing and makes everything else look like baby slopes. Except for the Texas Giant which the fear comes from it being made entirely out of wood, making it the biggest, still working wooden rollercoaster in the state.
I lived in Dallas for 13 years and it has some great stuff. Enjoy your time there, guys!
I defiantly think you guys should go to The Sixth Floor Museum. It's a surreal experience looking out the same window as the assassin and seeing the big white X where the fatal shot was hit. I really learned so much more from the museum. Once in a lifetime experience.
I can’t wait for you guys to come to Dallas! Let me just say that the Dallas Guilty Ones are hard at work getting people excited for the show!!! :) OK- there are a few AMAZING restaurants in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood which is close to downtown, try Cuba Libre on Henderson for the absolute best tacos and mojitos in town! Also on Henderson is Park which has a really eclectic 1960s kind of atmosphere and terrific food made using a lot of local and sustainable ingredients.
Dallas is famous for its shopping- I would recommend Northpark Center for just all-around shopping mall joy. It’s the queen of all malls, lol. Also, close to downtown is the West Village, full of lots of boutiques, restaurants, and one of the best movie theatres in town- The Magnolia. Another movie option for your night off is the Galaxy Drive-In in Ennis (30 minutes south of downtown Dallas), the cheapest and most fun way to watch a double-feature!!
For crazy amounts of fun try- Speed Zone go-kart tracks on I-35, right behind it is Zero Gravity “Thrill Amusement Park” full of bungee-jumping, and all kinds of flying-through-the-air-type rides…..and then of course there’s Medieval Times, and what’s not fun about horses and knights, etc. :) I hope you guys have fun while you’re here!!
OH! Also, The Twisted Root in Deep Ellum has tons of local Texas flair, and the BEST burgers and homemade root beer floats!!
For the best vintage shopping go to Pandemonium Limited on Henderson, Dolly Python on Haskell Ave, or Ahab Bowen on Boll St.
Best brunch in town is at Breadwinner's on McKinney (really close to the Winspear)
Best dancing is at S4 (gay club and hilarious drag show on Cedar Springs...Ghostbar on the roof of the W hotel is pretty swank, good DJs, great people-watching.
The Dallas Arboretum is having it's Dallas Blooms event while you guys are in town, and there is no place more BEAUTIFUL in the area- gorgeous, lush gardens overlooking White Rock Lake....walking around barefoot is a must.

Late to the party, but best burgers are Burger House (I like the one on Hillcrest), but they only take cash, they do have an atm, though. Totally make sure to hit up some authentic Tex-Mex and queso!
