Hello, Toronto! Interview with Matt Doyle

We start performances in Toronto tonight and we're so excited!

As you know, Matt Doyle, from our Broadway company, will be taking over the lead role of Melchoir for much of the Toronto run. There has been many a request for video coverage of Matt's arrival and we are proud to present a video taken of him in the last days of Cleveland when he first arrived on the scene with the touring cast. Take a look at this interview (conducted by our very own Krystina Alabado) and enjoy!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, a few days ago, you guys were asking about things to do in Toronto. How about going skiing/snowboarding on your day off? I know it sounds crazy in this weather, but I was just doing that on Sunday and I was honestly skiing + snowboarding in a t-shirt. Not to mention, there are some pretty amazing hills near Toronto, Mt St Louis, Snow Valley, and Horseshoe Valley are all within an hour's drive. So yeah, that's another possibility, XD

Why did they replace Kyle for the Toronto run? Why didn't they just use his understudy? Not that I have anything against Matt Doyle; I actually wish I were in Toronto to see him. Just curious is all... Anywho, break a leg!

Lara, I'm not positive that this is the reason but usually if one of the performers has to sit out for a certain city, they replace them. The reason is because the understudies / standby's (does SA have standby's?) have other roles and whatnot, and the whole casting situation would be thrown out of whack. As well, if the understudy gets sick or what not, there won't be somebody else to cover them.

Also, there's the reason that they might want to replace Kyle with a bigger name to draw in crowds. The cast change was announced after tickets had gone of sale, therefore they are making sure that nobody will complain by bringing in a previous Melchoir, one that is already pretty damn famous and stuff.

If I'm incorrect in anything, sorry about that, but yeah. Thought I would try explaining it, =D

Matt Doyle - incredible Melchior. Your acting choices astounded me. You made Melchior your own while still staying true to the intention of the creative team. I cannot wait to see this great cast again!

Hey everyone! I saw the show on the 19th in Toronto and it was amazing. I know you guys probably hear this a lot, but you really are a great cast. I want to appologize for how boring the audiance was and I hope they're not like that for all of the shows in Toronto. It is WAY more fun to perform in front of a louder crowd.
Also I would just like to congratulate Steffi D on her performance that night. You guys all did wonderful but she really stood out to me. Her stage prescence is awesome! Good job Steffi!

Keep up the great work guys, I hope to see it again soon!

Saw SA for the 1st time in Clev Sat nt & left with my head spinning from Matt Doyle. When we got there, I saw in the playbill that the lead was being replaced & I was disappointed. Now I laugh at that pre-show self because I've been introduced to my new talent crush - his voice is AMazing - check out the youtube videos of Matt singing Change is Coming & Navigate this Maze - you'll watch them again & again (or is it just me?) Trying to get to Toronto!
