Hey Bloggers!
Dropping a line to say hello to everyone! San Diego has been amazing thus far and very busy! We have been working non stop since we got here and finally opened on Wednesday! It has been a truly amazing and enriching experience. I have a confession to make, the first time time we sang "Song of Purple Summer" and the lights came up on us to take our bow, I was a mess. I don't think I can adequately describe how amazing and overwhelming it was to stand there and see all these people in the audience clapping and standing for us! Over the rehearsal process I think I forgot about how every night we get to share and go on this amazing journey with an audience. I am so lucky and very fortunate! So if you see my grinning from ear to ear or crying during curtain call, you know why!!!!!
XOXO,
Gabby

What were our star guitarist and our star Wendla doing at the Mac Store, you ask? It was a "Made On A Mac" seminar, hosted by our very own stage manager Eric Sprosty and A.S.M. Jason DePinto. Because the SPRING AWAKENING tour is All Mac, baby.... All Mac... Well, the stage management and the blog, at any rate...

Pirate ship - 34
Buttlerfly wing - 13
Child's suit - 91
Glowing moon - 10

Well congratulations are in order - it looks like most of you have your 'wall smarts' about you. Out of the four options, 1) a murky painting of a pirate ship, 2) an iridescent blue butterfly's wing, 3) a framed child's suit (lain out like in a coffin), and 4) a glowing image of a full moon...........(drum roll please)...........there is only ONE new item up on the wall of the SPRING AWAKENING tour set and it is 3) a framed child's suit!

Set designer Christine Jones was looking for a few items (there are some other new pieces, but you'll have to just come see the show to catch 'em all) to help replace one-of-a-kind items from Broadway and to cover a wall with very slightly different dimensions. The suit showed up for tech rehearsal and we all got a chill when we first saw the lighting for it when it's isolated during the show. Come see & you'll know what we mean.

For those of you who chose the pirate ship, it may have seemed like that was a new item because the ship up on the back wall doesn't exactly look like a pirate ship specifically - it's mostly in silhouette - but that's what it is, complete with lots of sails, guns, and the angled approach of a ship on the attack. It recalls Moritz and Ilse's conversation ("Remember when we used to play pirates?").

It's real now - we're in San Diego!

(Ok - so we've been here a week already - but with tech and all, we've been a little busy!)

First day of tech!

First day of tech in San Diego. Everyone was very glad last night to get into the hotel and unpack, stretch out, have a good dinner and get to sleep. Tech started today at 1pm at the Balboa Theater in San Diego, an old and beautifully restored theater right downtown in Horton Plaza. (Complete with twin working waterfalls on either side of the proscenium!)

We all arrived and checked out our dressing rooms. We got the intro speeches from Kimberly, our company manager, and Eric, our stage manager, met the crew and house staff, and then we got the backstage and dressing room tours.

Tech – always a long process, but everyone’s in good spirits. The set’s almost exactly the same as Broadway – same dimensions and everything – but there’s one wall hanging on the back wall that’s new. (If you’re in San Diego and a fan of the Broadway production, see if you can spot the addition!)
