Fan Friday: The Bitch of Waiting

We loved this video that two Guilty Ones in Rochester made called the Bitch of Waiting (for Spring Awakening to come to your town). Lyrics were written by Emily Pinero. Really creative guys, thanks! The wait won't be too long at all. Thanks for helping to share your passion for our show to the world! Has anyone ever come up with their own versions of "Bitch of Living"? Care to share?

When Spring Awakening comes to town
All will come from miles around
This Tony-winning show to see
With Melchior played by Jake Epstein
Christy Altomare sings on a chair
And Taylor Trensch has crazy hair
Steffi’s Ilse ain’t too shabby
But everybody’s “junk” is Gabby
Ben has dreams to be a preacher
Matt has dreams about his teacher
Sarah’s bruises fill her arm
Andy seduces with his charm
Anthony sports his sausage curls
Kate and Angela “bore” the girls
Kimiko’s got a crush on Jake
John and David never break
Krystina, Kayla, and Krista, shock
The audience in their “chairs of rock”
With Justin, Chase, and Lucas Wells
This show has got a cast that sells.
So come out young and come out old
To see this show that’s brave and bold!
-Emily Pinero

New Video: Peter's Getting Married PLUS Get a free MP3!

From Freddy Hall, our rockin' guitarist:

A very dear friend of mine, Peter, is getting married!! Unfortunately his wedding is on the same day as our closing night in Ft. Myers and I won't be able to attend. So, trying my best to make it up to him, I recruited Sarah Hunt and Marques Walls to help me record this beautiful song by Joshua Radin called "Lovely Tonight," for Peter and Katie's first dance as husband and wife.

Freddy rented a recording studio while in Cincinnati. In this video created by him, he takes you through the multi-stage process of recording a track, from first warm to final results:

GET YOUR FREE MP3 OF THIS TRACK! Limited Time Only!

Freddy wants all the Spring Awakening fans to share in this wonderful moment and is going to give you a free MP3 of the track:

I'm also using this opportunity to recruit anyone willing to take this project a step further. If you feel compelled to do so, submit a short poem/story/words of wisdom (anything sweet and creative will do) about love. I'll reply to your email with a copy of our version of "Lovely Tonight" as a thanks for participating.

Send your submissions along with your first name and where you're from to:

PetersGettingMarried (at) gmail (dot) com

In order to have time to compile your wonderful words and forward them to Peter in time for his big day, submissions are due by 6 pm Thursday, January 28th -

Thanks for helping to shower Peter and Katie with good wishes as all the Spring Awakening fans send them on their way towards matrimonial bliss. Feel free to share your words of wisdom in the comment section below as well. I'm sure everyone would love to read what you sent.

Class Assignment: New Year's Resolutions

new years resolutions-saidaonline

It's three weeks into the New Year. They say that if you've been been able to keep your New Year's resolutions for three weeks, the chances of you succeeding in your goals increases exponentially. When the cast and musicians came back from the break, we asked them what their resolutions were for the new year. Many of them mentioned that they wanted to keep in better touch with friends from home that they've neglected as a result of living on the road. Hope some of these can inspire you and keep you on track with your goals. How are you guys doing with your resolutions? We'd love to hear from you!

Anthony Lee Medina: My New Years resolution is more of a birthday gift to myself. This year I decided that from New Years day until my birthday (April 8th) I am going to be very respectful which for me means eating healthy, working out on a daily basis, and going back to my vegan diet

Christy Altomare: My new years resolution is to be a better friend to people I have fallen out of touch with while I have been on tour. : )

Krystina Alabado:
1) Of course, stay fit and in shape. Gym at least every other day, no matter how tired I am.
2) Keeping my blog, facebook, and website much more up to date :)
3) Keeping in touch with old friends from home more than I do.

Sarah Hunt:
My new year's resolution, since this tour is coming to an end, is to finally convince Papa Bessel to stop beating me... Really!?! After 600 shows you would think he'd have learned violence is NOT the answer.

Marques Walls:
My New Year's resolution is to return my phone calls in a timely fashion.

Taylor Trensch:
My first resolution is to depend less heavily on the Internet by using it less frequently. Two: I want to read more. Lastly, I'm going to refrain from eating nasty, greasy food after shows.

Andy Mientus:
In 2010, I want to lessen my impact on the environment so I'm going to try to live more sustainably- buying sustainable clothing, eating local and vegan, etc.

Alan Stevens Hewitt:
I didn't have a resolution per se this year, but I did wish for the sustained health and well-being of my family and friends, and I gave thanks to the cosmos for conspiring to provide me with the tools and opportunities that allow me to do what I do.

Kristen Rosenfeld:
I have never made a New Years resolution, and this year is no exception.

Spring Awakening: Life in Cartoon Land

Some times you get a tribute that makes you feel so very special. We wanted to share this with everyone. One of our fans, Jessica, created a little tribute to our cast members as a way of wishing them Happy Holidays. Not only do we think she's amazingly talented, but we are so humbled that she would take the time and energy to honor us in this way. Thank you so much, Jessica! We had so much fun picking everyone out!

Here's what Jessica wrote in her own words:

It being the end of the semester for most college students, myself included, it was great to have something to procrastinate on final projects with, and I am so in love with the costumes in this show it was far too much fun to try and draw them.

I got to see the show in both Chicago and Milwaukee with my best friend, Rachelle, who flew out from Virginia during her summer and fall breaks (respectively) both times, and it was probably the highlight of both our years to finally get to experience it live after being fans since early 2007, and even more special because she was the one who convinced me to check out the show in the first place. So we wanted to give our thanks to the cast yet again for being everything we hoped and more, and all sweet at the stage door to boot.

Click on the picture to make it larger and please let Jessica know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below!

If you've been following their Twitter feeds, you'll have seen pics of gingerbread houses being made, gifts unwrapped, and families huddled together for the holidays. Here's one you havn't seen. Over the break, Steffi D was back in Canada and made a snow kitten! By the way, that's a vintage snowsuit from the 80's, yup yup.

Spring Awakening named "Most Important Musical of the Decade"

Many theatre critics posted their end of the decade wrap ups over the break and Spring Awakening was mentioned frequently in their lists of the best productions of the decade. This is a huge honor for us.

The New York Times called us "the most important musical of the decade": http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/03/theater/03musicals.html?hpw

The Los Angeles Times included us as one of a handful of musicals which "conferred dignity to the art form" during a decade of "bloated" and "generic" tourist attractions:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/arts/la-ca-mcnultyessay20-2009dec20,0,3623076.story

and Variety provided an excellent summary of the Broadway trends in the last decade, calling us a musical which "broke the mold:"
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118012939.html?categoryId=2524&cs=1

The National Touring Production picked up a couple of awards over the break. The Denver Post's Ovation Awards named us "Best Touring Production" and gave Taylor Trensch "Best Supporting Actor in a Musical!" YAY!! Christy Altomare and Jake Epstein were also nominated in their categories and ranked high on the audience voter results: http://www.denverpost.com/theater/ci_14103103

Thanks to everyone who voted and for our fans who have made us a success and continue to inspire us.

Please leave a comment below if you'd like to congratulate the cast and crew.

Video: Kyle and Christy's Cabaret with special guest Jenna from Glee

At the start of the holiday break, Christy Altomare reunited with Kyle Riabko in Los Angeles for an event at the Upright Cabaret where they sang some of their original songs. A special unannounced treat for fans was special guest Jenna Ushkowitz, formerly of the Broadway company and better known for playing Tina Cohen-Chang in "Glee" on Fox. Here they all are singing "Touch Me" from the show that brought all of them together. Thanks to LA-based fan AlohaMichelle for taping this for everyone!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I send fan mail to the cast?

If you just want to send a quick note to all the cast members telling them you appreciate their work, you can email us here at totallytruckedblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I will be happy to forward your email to the cast, but to preserve their privacy, it is unlikely they will email you back (I will, though).

You can also send individual performers fan mail and care packages care of the theatre at which we are currently performing or will be performing. Go to the theatre's website (listed above), find their mailing address, write the actor's name as well as "Spring Awakening" and send c/o the theatre. Remember, we are often at these theatres for only a week so make sure to allow for delivery times. It's a better bet to send it to the theatre we will be going to next as they can always hold packages for us until we arrive. Letters received late will not be forwarded to our next location.

2. How Can I Audition for Spring Awakening?
From time to time, we have open calls in larger cities across the US. We will post any additional open calls here. Subscribe if you havn't already to keep informed. In the meantime, we've made it easy for you to submit yourself singing a folk/alternative rock song on video. Go to: http://www.springawakening.com/videoauditionsubmission/ Make sure your submission is less than 500 MB and is one of the accepted formats. Your screen should change and you should get a confirmation that says your submission has been received. Trust us, people are called in this way. Lucas Wells was cast because of an online submission!

3. How Do I Score On Stage Seats?
That is really up to the individual theatres. Most of them won't release the seats until just before performances because they want to make sure the house is sold first. Some do so online, although the ticketing systems they have in place often can't accommodate our unique seats onstage. Most of them are available only at the box office (though you can purchase them for a performance in the future). The Guilty Ones Street Team members have the rights to purchase these seats before the general public. Any seats left over will be released to the box office and may also be purchased as part of rush tickets (discounted, day-of tickets).

4. How Do I Join The Guilty Ones?

The National Guilty Ones Street Team is a way for fans of the show in each of our tour stops to help us spread the word. You will get access to parties, meet and greets, and other special events while meeting new friends who share your passion for the show, all while gaining some valuable marketing experience. You must be at least 15 yrs old. Email your contact info to nationalguiltyones (at) gmail (dot) com.

5. Can I Get Discounts?

From time to time, a theatre may offer us discounts to send out to our fans. We will post any here on the blog. Subscribe now!

6. Who runs this site? This site was created for fans to stay connected with our touring cast and follow their adventures around North America. Ideally, it would be in the voice of the cast members. Unfortunately, our cast members are often too tired or busy to post lengthy blog posts on a regular basis. Company members will contribute a post from time to time and every month we will have a compiled blog post that most every company member will participate in. The other stuff like updates, etc, will be posted by me. My name is Pun. I work for the production, love this show, its cast, and our fans, and I'm so very glad you're here!
